Terms of Service

Welcome to Lore. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Lore web application available at app.explorewithlore.eu and any related services (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Lore is operated by Brian ("we", "us", "our"), a sole proprietor based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. If you have questions about these Terms, contact us at support@explorewithlore.eu.

1. The Service

Lore is an AI-powered pocket historian for tourists in Amsterdam. The Service allows you to scan buildings and landmarks with your camera to receive historical stories, browse curated city highlights, and listen to GPS-triggered audio narration across historical zones in Amsterdam.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years of age to use the Service. By using Lore, you represent that you meet this requirement.

3. Accounts and Authentication

You may use certain features of the Service without creating an account. Additional features require signing in with a Google account via Google OAuth. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account credentials. We do not store your Google password.

4. Purchases and Payments

Lore offers a free tier with limited features. Paid features are available through a Day Pass (€4.99 for 24 hours) or individual Zone Unlocks (€1.99 per zone). All payments are processed securely through Stripe. Prices are in euros and include applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.

Refund policy: Because the Service delivers digital content immediately upon purchase, refunds are generally not available once content has been accessed. If you experience a technical issue that prevents you from using a purchased feature, contact us at support@explorewithlore.eu and we will work to resolve the issue or provide a refund at our discretion.

5. Free Tier

The free tier includes a limited number of camera scans and access to the Discover feature. After signing in with Google, you receive additional free scans and access to one complimentary audio zone. Free tier limits may change at any time.

6. AI-Generated Content

Historical stories and narrations provided by Lore are generated using artificial intelligence (Claude by Anthropic). While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions. The content is for entertainment and general informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as a sole source of historical fact. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated content.

7. Acceptable Use

When using the Service, you agree not to:

• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the Service.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
• Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit any content generated by the Service without our written permission.
• Use automated tools to scrape or extract content from the Service.

8. Intellectual Property

The Lore brand, logo, design, and original content are owned by us. AI-generated stories delivered to you through the Service are provided for your personal, non-commercial use. You may share stories informally (such as reading them aloud or showing your screen to a companion) but may not systematically reproduce or publish them.

9. Location Data

The Areas feature uses your device's GPS location to trigger audio narration in specific zones. Location data is processed in real time on your device and is not stored on our servers. You may disable location access at any time through your device settings, though this will limit the Areas functionality.

10. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on third-party providers including Google (authentication), Anthropic (AI content generation), ElevenLabs (text-to-speech), Stripe (payment processing), and Google Maps (navigation). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability or practices of third-party services.

11. Availability and Changes

We aim to keep the Service available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Lore and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable Dutch or EU law.

13. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free or that AI-generated content will be accurate.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, without prejudice to your rights under mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated Terms on the Service with a revised effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
